Heart Evangelista on being real: ‘I didn't want people to love me because of the character I was playing’

In Heart Evangelista’s new era, she is all about keeping it real.

From showing vulnerability, to posting some meme-worthy videos, the Sparkle artist and fashion icon said in an interview with GMA News Online that she is “really enjoying just playing myself these days.”

Heart had an awakening and realized that, “I didn't want people to love me because of the character I was playing in a telenovela, but I kind of wanted them to like me at least for being myself.”

She added, “I feel like being authentic, the good things and the bad things, allows people to get to know you more and decide whether they like you or not, and I kinda like that.”

And despite the negative experiences, Heart said that these are parts of the process of life, and add layers to one’s personality.

The celebrity also points to her husband, Senator Chiz Escudero, for an important life lesson. “My husband would always tell me, ‘Along with the glory comes the punches’.”

“I feel like, if you didn't go through hard times or if you didn't make mistakes or anything of that, you'd be just a beautiful item sitting on the shelf for everybody to look at,” she added.

According to Heart, “A role model isn't supposed to be perfect, it doesn't exist.”

So by being open with both the good and bad times, she can let people know that, “It's okay, you know, it's normal.”

Heart also hopes to use her life experiences as an actor's "hugot," to bring a character to life.

Heart last starred in the Kapuso series “I Left My Heart in Sorsogon" and appeared in the international film “The Wedding Hustler” and the Netflix reality show “Bling Empire.”

Heart Evangelista just renewed her contract with Sparkle GMA Artist Center.
