Dolly De Leon tells those waiting for their big break to build and nurture relationships

Dolly De Leon has a simple yet life-changing piece of advice for artists — and those in other industries — who are waiting for their big break.

In an interview on “Share Ko Lang” with Dr. Anna Tuazon, the top Filipina actress says that having a community and support system is an important factor in making it, and that she is a firm believer in building relationships.

“I think what’s really most important is nurturing all the relationships that you have around you, not just with your family and your close friends, the new people you meet along the way,” Dolly said.

She added that everyone needs each other and that no man is an island. “We can’t live alone without anyone else’s help. We need a support system. We need a community we can rely on.”

Dolly said that building relationships along the way also include being vulnerable, and trusting and connecting with people.

“Pwedeng mawala lahat ng bagay, pwedeng mawala ang career, pwedeng mawala ang material possessions. But the relationships that you nurture and you build, that can last you a lifetime and that’s more valuable than any kind of social status or any kind of recognition you may receive,” she said.

Dolly made history by being the first Filipina to be nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for “Triangle of Sadness.” She was also nominated for a BAFTA and attended the Oscars.

In June, she was announced as a new cast member of the second season of “Nine Perfect Strangers.” That same month, Dolly was invited to become a member of the 2023 Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Dolly is also part of two Cinemalaya entries this year: Dustin Celestino's "Ang Duyan ng Magiting" and Carl Joseph Papa's "Iti Mapupukaw." —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
