Pura Luka Vega reacts to being declared persona non grata in some cities
Pura Luka Vega took to Twitter to air her sentiments after being declared persona non grata in Manila.
On Thursday, the "Drag Den Philippines" contestant said she's open for dialogues, yet a number of cities have already declared her persona non grata, meaning she's no longer welcome in certain places.
"Tell me exactly what I did wrong," Luka wrote. "I'm open for a dialogue, and yet cities have been declaring persona non grata without even knowing me or understanding the intent of the performance."
Luka stood by her words that her performance was a form of art.
"Drag is art," she said. "You judge me, yet you don't even know me."
Luka was declared persona non grata in Manila on Thursday. Previously, she was also declared persona non grata in General Santos City, Floridablanca in Pampanga, and Toboso in Negros Occidental.
In an exclusive interview with GMA News Online, the drag artist said that her "Ama Namin" performance wasn't meant to be disrespectful and that the song was her way to reconcile her Catholic faith with her queerness. She also said performing it in public is an "embodiment of God's love for all."
