Khalil Ramos reflects on showbiz journey ahead of 'Tick, Tick… Boom!' opening night

Khalil Ramos is feeling sentimental ahead of his theater debut on Saturday.

The Kapuso actor and singer is starring as Jon on “Tick, Tick… Boom!”, a role which he alternates with theater veteran Jef Flores.

Ahead of opening night, Khalil took to Instagram to reflect on his life and career.

“My life has been a series of leaps of faith, starting with joining a talent search 12 years ago, then trying acting on screen, venturing into starting a business, and falling in love,” he said. “2 months ago, I took my biggest leap yet.”

Khalil admitted to being scared of doing live theater but decided to take the risk.

“I was always terrified of doing live theater, often wondering if I had what it takes. Although I had been asked in the past to do it, the grand scale of a live show scared me,” he said.

“When these opportunities passed and every time I saw a live show, I couldn't help but wonder, 'What if?'” he added. “Tonight, that 'what if' becomes a reality.”

Khalil, alongside Vien King as Michael and Kayla Rivera as Susan, will be opening “Tick, Tick… Boom!” on Saturday night at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza, Makati. It will run for all weekends of August.

He thanked his fellow actors Reb Atadero and Tanya Manalang, and the whole production team, saying, “The past two months have been an incredible journey with you.”

"I am very grateful that you welcomed me into your beautiful, beautiful world,” Khalil added. “Let’s fucking do this!”

“Tick, Tick… Boom!” is a semi-autobiographical work by Jonathan Larson. It follows Jon, a struggling, aspiring composer in New York City, who writes a musical in order to enter the theater industry. That musical ended up being "Rent."

“Tick, Tick… Boom!” debuted Off-Broadway in 2001 and gained more popularity as a Netflix film starring Andrew Garfield and directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is also the man behind “Hamilton.”

Khalil recently starred as Basilio in “Maria Clara at Ibarra” and has an upcoming project alongside Maris Racal and Dolly De Leon.
