Betong Sumaya shares funny story about 1st visit to APT Studios: 'Hindi ako nakilala ng guard'

Betong Sumaya is among the new hosts of "Eat Bulaga."

In a recent "Surprise Guest with Pia Arcangel" episode, Betong shared a funny story about his first visit to the APT studio: The security guard didn't recognize him.

Laughing at the experience and saying he understood the security guard was just doing their job, Betong began narrating his experience. "Syempre dahil parang kinakabahan ka, pinara kami. Sabi, 'sino po yan.'"

When he introduced himself as Betong, the guard simply replied with "Ha? Sabi, sino? 'Betong po.' 'Sino sino?"

"Hindi ako kilala. Sabi ko, 'papasok pa ba ako dito? meeting palang ito ha," he continued.

Apparently, the security guards didn't know he was among those arriving for the day. "Hindi naibilin. Sabi ko, 'Betong po,' tapos tinanggal ko yung mask ko kasi naka-mask ako e. Sabi [lang] niya, 'ahhh,'" Betong recalling laughing.

That was on his first meeting with TAPE, Inc. executives where he met the brothers Jon-Jon and Bullet Jalosjos.

Betong recalled that was a Friday, and on the following Monday, his actual first day at work, "tinanong nanaman ako, hahahaha. Sabi, 'sino?'"

"Ms. Pia, mahirap naman sabihin ko, 'host po' baka hindi maniwala. Kaya okay okay ayun," Betong said, still laughing.

It's not the first time Betong has not been recognized by security guards. He had a similar experience back in 2019, when a security guard at the GMA Network Center did not recognize him, asked him for an ID, "tapos hindi ako pinapasok."

Betong joins the likes of Isko Moreno and Paolo Contis in bringing joy and laughter at noontime on "Eat Bulaga."

They are currently enjoying the fruits of their labor, boasting of an impressive rating of 4.0 last July 19, based on overnight data from Nielsen.
