Eraserheads cap off Huling El Bimbo North American tour in New York

The Eraserheads have done it.

The Pinoy rock band that took the '90s by storm has just concluded the month-long "Ang Huling El Bimbo North American tour in New York City, no less.

The Eheads played a total of 10 shows across the US and Canada, bringing the highly successful reunion show they first played in Manila to thousands of Filipinos abroad.

In New York, Ely Buendia, Raymund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, and Markus Adoro played a total of 27 songs — without intermission, mind! — at the Hulu Theater of Madison Square Garden.

They opened with "Combo on the Run" brought the house down with "Ligaya," and played crowd favorites including "Magasin," "Shirley," and "Kailan," their co-writer of which, Carina Evangelista happened to be in the crowd.

"We cannot be happier that it ends here in NYC," Ely said before the screaming crowd comprised mostly of Filipinos eager to hear a taste of home.

"We'd like to thank all of you for showing up," Buddy added, much to the crowd's delight.

Meanwhile, Raymund requested the crowd to "put down the cellphones," saying "we've never done a tour like this, and this is our last stop for this leg."

"There's a million videos of us on the interwebs. We wanna feel you. We want you to sing. We want to see you dance without the cellphones. Like back in the day," he added as the crowd went wild and the band opened their three-song encore with "Alapaap."

The Eraserheads then played "Pare Ko" and ended the night on high with "Huling El Bimbo."

The tour was produced by DVent Productions, NSYS Shows, and WEU, with GMA Pinoy TV as a sponsor.

The Eraserheads flew to the US on May 18, with Ely Buendia saying they hope to "bring a little bit of home to them."

They first performed "Ang Huling El Bimbo" reunion show last December at the SMDS Festival Grounds where no less than 60,000 fans came to watch.

For a band that only wanted to play the AS Steps of U.P. Diliman, touring North America sounds pretty far out. Congratulations to one and all! — LA, GMA Integrated News
