Ariel Rivera admits not liking the label 'Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala'
When Ariel Rivera took OPM by storm in the '90s, he earned the moniker "Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala" simply for the effect he had on, well, kolehiyalas.
On "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," the singer admitted he never really liked the title.
"I did not [like it]," Ariel said, explaining "it was so presumptuous of me to feel na all these kolehiyalas love me. It's so presumptuous of anybody to feel that way."
"It's just not me," he added.
Ariel, who hails from Canada, didn't know at that time that Hajji Alejandro was the original Kilabot.
"Wala namang akong alam sa history of OPM at that time. But how could you take somebody's title?" He said.
On "Fast Talk," Ariel shared Boy's partner, Bong Quintana, was among those who thought up the name for him.
"There were a few times, Si Bong kasi would always be backstage. Sasabihin nila nina Hansel, [I'll introduce Ariel as kilabot]. I told Bong, 'you introduce me as that, hindi ako lalabas ng stage'."
Still the name caught on. Girls went wild for the tall, dark, and handsome balladeer, who crooned like there was no tomorrow.
When asked what the wildest experience he had with a fan, Ariel recalled performing a show in Assumption and taking a girl up the stage. "We take girls up the stage and we give them a kiss. When it was my time for me to kiss her, she grabbed my face and — [lips to lips] kami. Tapos the next day, ka-date ko na siya," he recalled laughing.
Ariel has been married to actress Gelli de Belen since 1997. — LA, GMA Integrated News
