Eat Bulaga goes back live on air with new hosts

After a week of uncertainty, Eat Bulaga went live on air Monday with new hosts.

Paolo Contis, Betong, Buboy Villar, Mavy and Cassy Legaspi, and Alexa Miro are among those who opened the noontime show on Monday.

They performed a high-energy version of American Authors' "Best Day of My Life" and immediately played a game with units of iPhone 14 as prizes.

Local girl group XOXO and Kokoy de Santos are joining them as guest performers.

Ahead of its time slot, Alexa also posted on Instagram Stories, showing a row of the iconic Eat Bulaga mics with name tags.

Last Wednesday, Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon announced their departure from TAPE, Inc., the producers of "Eat Bulaga" and a block timer of GMA-7. Other hosts followed suit.

GMA Network immediately issued a statement saying "we are saddened" by the turn of events" while TAPE Inc., said it was "unfortunate but life must go on."

In Nelson Canlas' 24 Oras report on Friday, GMA Senior Vice President Annette Gozon-Valdes clarified the network  had no control over the situation.

"Kung may say control lang tayo, may say lang tayo sa mangyayari, siyempre hindi natin sila papakawalan. 'Yun ang term nila. Pipigilan natin sila. Susubukan natin gawin ang lahat para mag-stay sila sa atin kaya lang sa totoo hands off ang GMA diyan kasi it was an internal issue between TVJ and TAPE, Inc.," Gozon-Valdes said.

She also addressed the issue of GMA's contract with TAPE, Inc., saying "We have to honor the contract as long as there is no breach of its provisions. Kasi you know iba ang contract, eh it has legal consequences."

Gozon-Valdes added GMA's talent arm, Sparkle Artist Center, is ready to supply talents for Eat Bulaga.

"Kung wala namang conflict and pumapayag yung talents why not 'di ba? Its really a separate business kung mabibigyan naman ng trabaho yung talents namin why not and we've been doing this even before magka falling out years and years back," Gozon-Valdes said. — LA, GMA Integrated News
