Miguel Tanfelix gets inspiration from 'Top Gun' for role as Steve Armstrong

Miguel Tanfelix said the iconic film "Top Gun" is one of his inspirations for his role as Steve Armstrong in "Voltes V: Legacy."

In Nelson Canlas's report on "24 Oras," Monday, the Sparkle actor said Tom Cruise's character in the film, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, is similar to Steve.

In terms of what they do, it's a really close fit: both Maverick and Steve are pilots and ride motorcycles.

"'Yung pinaka importanteng way para mas makilala mo 'yung character mo is gawin mo 'yung ginagawa niya," Miguel said.

To prepare for his role, he underwent firearms training and motorcycle training.

Steve is the leader of the Voltes V squad. He is the pilot of Volt Crewzer, the jet that becomes the head of the Voltes V robot.

He is also the older brother of Big Bert and Little Jon, who pilot the Volt Panzer and Volt Frigate, respectively.

"Very mapagmahal siyang tao pero reserved din siya dahil leader siya," Miguel said about Steve. "Kailangan niya maging matigas dahil siya 'yung tumatayong parent sa dalawa niyang kapatid."

"Mahirap 'yung buhay ni Steve pero kailangan niya magpakatatag dahil tinitingala siya ng maraming tao," he added.

"Voltes V: Legacy" will premiere on GMA Telebabad on May 8.
