Carla Abellana says 'Voltes V: Legacy' came at the perfect time: 'I was in a very vulnerable state'

“Voltes V: Legacy” has been in the works for quite a while. But for Carla Abellana, it came “at a perfect time,” and that her vulnerability helped her in playing the role.

The Kapuso star plays Mary Ann Armstrong, a scientist and the mother of the Voltes Team’s Steve, Big Bert, and Little Jon. Carla said it best when she described her character as “napaka serious, strict, intellectual,” but a loving mother of three boys.

According to the actress, there was a lapse of time in between learning about the role and the first taping day. While she didn’t have reservations, “I was a bit anxious.”

“Kasi 'yun if ever 'yung aking magiging first taping or parang first show to be part after getting married and all that, so parang back to work," she said in a press conference. "Medyo ilang months din 'yung lumipas."

“And then of course, given the circumstance, you know, whatever blew up—all the speculations, all the issues na lumalabas, talagang mangangapa ka and then mag-wo-worry ka. Parang imposibleng di ka maging anxious eh,” she added.

But despite it all, Carla said that the timing of “Voltes V” was perfect because she was in the right headspace, was ready to go back to work, and was excited to film.

“I was eager to go back to work nga nung time na yun, but at the same time, I was still in a very vulnerable state, which was also okay because important din 'yun sa amin as actors. Nagamit ko din naman 'yun,” she said.

“Vulnerable but hindi naman 'yung super sensitive or anything, but vulnerable just enough na alam mo 'yun, na I get in touch with my emotions again and then nakapag-focus ako sa ibang tao other than myself, 'yung character naman 'yung aking magiging focus,” Carla added.

In the same press conference, Carla said that she is in a much better place now.

Before its premiere on GMA Network, “Voltes V: Legacy: The Cinematic Experience” will exclusively be shown in SM Cinemas from April 19 to 25. This film will include material from the first three weeks of the series.

Miguel Tanfelix, Ysabel Ortega, Matt Lozano, Radson Flores, and Raphael Landicho agreed that audiences will definitely enjoy this live-action adaptation. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
