Why Martin Del Rosario and Liezel Lopez love playing the kontrabidas in ‘Voltes V: Legacy’

For Martin Del Rosario and Liezel Lopez, it's good being bad.

The two play the main villains in the much-awaited series “Voltes V: Legacy.”

Martin plays Prince Zardoz, the Voltes team’s archenemy who leads the invasion of Earth. Liezel meanwhile plays Zandra, Zardoz’s loyal aide who’s got some sinister plans for him to fight the Voltes V. They also share a love story.

In a virtual interview with the media, Martin and Liezel told GMA News Online why they enjoy playing the bad guys.

For Liezel, it's that their characters are not the typical kontrabidas.

“Meron kaming love teams, merong mga romantic scenes, merong mga comedy scenes, merong mga heavy drama scenes,” she said. “Malalim yung hugot per character sa mga scenes namin.”

Liezel also noted the forbidden love between Zandra and Zardoz, and how it is not how romance is usually portrayed because it’s hard to see their intentions.

“Hindi siya sobrang obvious like sa mga typical na series na parang, 'oh, they love each other,' parang nag-ho-holding hands and stuff,” she said. “Dito, ma-fi-feel mo lang yung parang tension sa ‘min sa mga first scenes.”

Martin likewise enjoys playing the antagonist because he can get creative with the role, given that the character has layers.

“Siguro yung pinagkaiba lang ni Prinsipe Zardoz dun sa iba kong ginawang kontrabida — hindi siya yung totally bad,” the Kapuso actor said. “Para siyang good na bad, 'di mo maintindihan, kaya ang sarap paglaruan eh.”

Martin also found it interesting how after watching the series, viewers may have mixed feelings about Zardoz.

“Di mo alam kung hate mo ba si Zardoz or naiintindihan mo siya, san siya nanggagaling,” he said.

Martin added how audiences will be able to learn different lessons and values from each character.

“Bukod sa heroism, sa love, 'yung mga romance, makikita rin dito yung value for family,” he said.

“Madaming mapupulot na aral dito actually from different characters, sa mga hugot ng bawat characters. So yun, excited na kaming mapanood niyo ‘to.”

Before its premiere on GMA Network, “Voltes V: Legacy: The Cinematic Experience” will exclusively be shown in SM Cinemas from April 19 to 25. This film will include material from the first three weeks of the series. — LA, GMA Integrated News
