Amy Austria on addicting vices: 'Walang maidudulot na mabuti, walang magagawang maganda'

Amy Austria looked back at a time in her life when she fell into drug addiction.

On Wednesday's episode of "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," the veteran actress recalled how her then addiction started and how she got out of it.

According to the "Hearts on Ice" actress, that phase of her life started in 1986 when she tried smoking cigarettes, weed, and other abusive substances.

When asked how she got into it, Amy said it was for the sole purpose of experiencing it.

"Para lang masabi na na-try mo," Amy said. "Pero pagdating sa shabu, 'yun 'yung hindi mo na ma-stop."

"It's very deceiving kasi akala mo ['yung mga] nagagawa mo, normal pa rin, pero di mo alam unti-unti kang lumulubog, unti-unti ka nang nawawala sa wisyo mo," she added.

Amy narrated how it took her more or less six years to stop using drugs, but she couldn't help it. Until one day, she embarked on a three-day retreat to cleanse her mind and her system.

"Three days 'yung retreat, sabi ko lang, Lord, tanggalin mo 'to, di ko kaya. I admit, hindi ko kaya," she said. "Ayoko na."

"And I surrendered [to the Lord], 'pag uwi ko ng bahay after that retreat, wala na," she added.

Amy said that if she had a piece of advice for the youth after her experience with abusive substances, it would be to not think of trying it anymore.

"'Wag na, walang maidudulot na mabuti, walang magagawang maganda, 'wag mo sayangin ['yung buhay mo]," Amy said.

"Tulad ko noon, six years I tried to stop, ang tagal pero hindi ko talaga kaya. Ang daming nasayang, ang daming nasira," she added.

Amy currently stars in GMA's primetime TV series "Hearts on Ice" with Ashley Ortega and Xian Lim.
