Jasmine Curtis-Smith opens up on being compared to sister Anne Curtis
Jasmine Curtis-Smith has opened up on being compared to her elder sister Anne Curtis.
In an interview with Preview, Jasmine said that when she started showing up on sets, most people would refer to her as "kapatid ni Anne."
The actress admitted that it bothered her a bit. Sometimes, she ended up asking herself, "Wait, 'di ba I came in as Jasmine?'"
"I didn't have the mature capacity yet to understand why [they were referring to me as that]. It was just a term of reference," she said.
"It wasn't to disrespect me, it was just the easiest way to remember me at that time," she added.
Jasmine said people also asked her if she gets affected in any way by her elder sister's fame.
"People think like 'Di ka ba na-aano na sobrang sikat ng ate mo?' Like, oh? And then? I've known that growing up," she said.
"It just becomes more important for me now to take that into consideration because I'm not only taking care of my name [but also her] name, too."
Jasmine said there's never been competition between her and Anne partly due to their big age gap—Anne is older than Jasmine by nine years.
She also revealed why she uses the last name, Smith, while Anne doesn't.
"I want to complete my name kasi it's a way of [giving] honor doon sa ancestors namin and those who came before us," she said.
"I don't know, I have a very big need to be in touch with my roots that a name matters to me," she added.
Jasmine, however, clarified that Anne also gives it just as much importance.
The actress most recently starred in the film, "In My Mother's Skin," which was included in the well-known Sundance Festival in the USA.
