Lorin Bektas is surprisingly so good at Tagalog, thanks to a steady diet of teleseryes

Because Lorin Bektas' social media videos are mostly in English, netizens couldn't but be surprised at how naturally Lorin could speak Tagalog.

On TikTok Wednesday, the daughter of Ruffa Gutierrez did a “get ready with me” video speaking mainly speaking in Tagalog.

In the video, Lorin said she learned to speak Tagalog fluently by watching Filipino TV series.

“’Yung paborito ko talaga yung 'Darna,' yung Marian Rivera version,” she said.

Aside from watching local TV, Lorin also immersed herself in local films and music, and read Wattpad books in Tagalog.

According to Lorin, English is her first language. "Sa school ko — international school siya, so wala naman siyang Tagalog na subject," she said. "Pagkausap ko naman mom ko, English talaga ginagamit namin. Minsan Taglish." 

In mid-2022, Lorin and her younger sister Venice went to Turkey to reunite with their father Yilmaz, whom they hadn’t seen in 15 years.

During their Turkey trip, Lorin and Venice also bonded with their half-sister, Ilknaz Bektas. — LA, GMA Integrated News
