'Plane' film distributor 'intends' to provide new version for approval after 'voluntarily' pulling out from the Philippines
Screen Media Films Co., the distributor of the movie, "Plane," has voluntarily pulled out the film from "public exhibition" after Senator Robin Padilla called on the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to ban the movie in the Philippines.
According to Sen. Padilla, the fictional film put the Philippines in a negative light since it showed Filipino terrorists taking foreigners hostage in Jolo, Sulu.
According to MTRCB's official statement signed by MTRCB chairperson Lala Sotto Antonio, "the Board was in the process of re-evaluating the film 'Plane' in response to the objections raised by concerned groups" when the film distributor voluntarily pulled out the movie.
MTRCB received the notice from the film distributor via a letter from the company.
According to the MTRCB, the distributor also intends to provide the MTRCB with a "new version of the film for appropriate review and classification."
