Did 'Maria Clara at Ibarra' finally reveal Fidel's real identity?
With the story of "El Filibusterismo" finally concluded in "Maria Clara at Ibarra," fans have one last question to ask: who is Fidel, really?
In the latest episode, this was seemingly answered when Mr. Torres appeared to fetch Klay from the novel.
The professor asked Klay if she has finally figured out Fidel's role, as Fidel himself was still desperately searching for his name in the book.
Klay then talked to Fidel and shared him her theory: he is probably one of Crisostomo Ibarra's friends who was previously in the seminary.
In "Noli Me Tangere," this character is called Albino and he is among those who attended the picnic by the lake.
Albino only had a small role in the original novel, so Klay said she was wondering why Fidel was more involved in the story.
Fidel then said his role probably became bigger because of Klay's presence.
As to why there is no Fidel de los Reyes y Maglipol in the book, Klay said that perhaps, it's just like in history, where there are many unsung heroes who remain unknown even though they also fought for their country.
So is Fidel really Albino or a version of him? With two more episodes to go, "Maria Clara at Ibarra" can still make it clear.
Klay has finally returned to the real world, and the preview for Thursday's episode showed her looking for Mr. Torres at her school. However, she was told that Mr. Torres is no longer there, but referred her to someone named Mr. Barry Torres, the old professor's grandson.
Klay then appeared surprised when she saw who Barry is. Mr. Torres previously mentioned a "Barry" and a "Pido," names that sound similar to "Ibarra" and "Fidel."
It seems like there is still some twist left before "Maria Clara at Ibarra" says goodbye for good.
