Ronnie Liang warns netizens about catfishing scam using his photos, identity
Ronnie Liang has warned netizens about scammers and impostors catfishing their victims using his photos and identity.
On Instagram, Saturday, Ronnie shared screenshots of a message from a concerned citizen from Norway informing him of the scam.
Another message came from a fellow Filipino, who asked him if he has a second account as someone claiming to be Ronnie messaged them on social media.
"It's happening not only in the Philippines but also in Europe. One fake account pretended to be a US Army and even created a fake Military I.D. using my photo," Ronnie said.
"Another bogus profile friended people on social media and asked for meet-ups, another asked for money, and another flirted shamelessly using my pictures and videos," he added.
Ronnie said he will drop by the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Unit and hope they can help with his situation.
"I had heard it before but shrugged it off, thinking it wasn't serious. Pero sobrang dami na pala. People sent me proof that they gave money to these scammers and asked me if I had received them," he said.
The singer asked the victims to send him their proof once again as so many people have been messaging him.
"Hindi ko alam na ang dami ko na palang karelasyon sa iba't ibang bansa (sana true haha)," Ronnie quipped.
Catfishing is a form of online deception where a person pretends to be someone else to their victim using false information and photos.
