Michelle Yeoh wins Best Actress at Golden Globes, showcases humor and heart in acceptance speech
Michelle Yeoh won Best Actress at the Golden Globes for her role in "Everything Everywhere All At Once" becoming only the second Asian actor to win the category.
In her acceptance speech, Yeoh talked about being in the business for 40 years, winning the award at 60 years old, and the "incredible fight to be here today."
"I'm just going to stand here and talk it all in," she began her acceptance speech, clearly relishing the moment.
"Forty years — I'm not letting go of this," she added.
Yeoh talked about going to Hollywood, being told she was a minority, and poked fun at people who pointed out she could speak English.
"Yeah, the flight here was about 13 hours long so I learned on the way," she laughed.
The Globes tried to cut her off by playing music, but Yeoh said, "Shut up, please!" With the audience laughing, she continued to say, “I can beat you up, okay? And that’s serious.”
In the eccentric adventure movie, Yeoh played an immigrant Asian woman who can save the world by exploring other universes that showed all the other lives she could have led.
In her speech, Yeoh said the character resonated with many "because in whatever universe she was at, she was just fighting, fighting for love for her family."
She concluded, in part, that the award is for "all who looks like me."
