Aries Night opens up about her past in 'Drag Den PH:' 'No one should live through all that'
Spoiler warning! If you haven't watched Episode 2 of "Drag Den Philippines," you might want to skip this article for now.
In the episode, after the eight competing queens worked in pairs for the challenge "Laughing in Tandem," Drag Runner Sassa Gurl called out Aries Night for speaking softly.
“Kinakain mo yung sinasabi mo. Ang hina ng boses mo,” Sassa Gurl told Aries.
[You were eating your words. Your voice was too soft.]
Sassa's comment led Aries to open up about her past in the show and why she speaks the way she does, and the story goes way back to her childhood.
“Meron akong trigger sa mga malalakas, sa sigawan,” Aries responded. “Lumaki kasi ako sa bahay na sigawan.”
[I get triggered when I hear anything loud, screaming because that was the norm in my childhood home.]
A few days after the second episode aired, the drag queen from Antipolo articulated her thoughts through a Twitter statement after receiving overflowing words of support from netizens and those who sympathize and relate with her.
"I grew up in a VERY dysfunctional family," Aries wrote. "It wasn't just my childhood; it also was my [teenage years] and early adulthood."

According to Aries, she only realized the "deep-seated" effects of her family dynamics late in his life.
"As simple as lighting a firework or popping a balloon, [I get scared] because of the loud sound it'll make," she said.
She also remembered that one time in college when her professor kiddingly stomped his feet loudly on a wooden floor, which made her instantly nervous.
“[Our house is made of wood.] So, imagine the numerous times waking up to that sound just to hear fighting, shouting, and cursing," she added.
The 25-year-old drag queen said she wanted to share her story on her platform further to shed light on how family dynamics could affect someone in the long run. But Aries assured that compared to last year when they shot the episode, she is now in a better state.
“As [a] kuya, I try my best na bawiin lahat ng years of traumatic experience that my younger sisters and I went through before [and that] never na ulit kami mapupunta sa [ganoong] situation,” she said.
[As an older brother, I try my best to compensate for all the years of traumatic experiences that my younger sisters and I went through so that we will never be in that situation again.]
Aries ended her post by saying she sees "Drag Den Philippines" as a medium to pour her heart out and be listened to.
“I’m not happy na madami [naka-relate,] kasi sa totoo lang[,] no one should live through all that,” she said.
[I'm not happy that many people could relate to my story because, honestly, no one should live through all that.]
Earlier this month, "Drag Den Philippines" premiered in the Philippines with a viewing party at TriNoma. Aside from Aries, the other competing queens are Shewarma, Lady Gagita, O-A, Barbie Q, Maria Christina, Pura Luka Vega, and NAIA.
