Where did Sassa Gurl get her screen name?

At this point, Sassa Gurl is all over social media, thanks to her success in creating comedic videos on TikTok, but did you ever wonder how she came up with her screen name?

In the latest episode of The Mangahas Interviews with journalist Malou Mangahas, Sassa Girl, born Felix Petate, revealed the origins of her screen name.

"May idol po kasi ako sa isang TV contest, ang pangalan niya is Sassa Dagdag," Sassa Gurl told Mangahas. "Since I'm a transwoman, nilagyan ko nalang ng girl, so Sassa Gurl."

According to the TikTok star, her branding is all about keeping it real on social media.

"OK lang naman mag-mukhang plain lugaw 'di 'ba? OK lang naman ipakita imperfections mo," she said.

Since landing in the Top 2 influencers in the Philippines on TikTok, Sassa Gurl has paved the way for herself to make a living outside of social media, including being an actress and a host for an upcoming drag competition, "Drag Den Philippines" by RuPaul's Drag Race alum Manila Luzon. —Hermes Tunac/JCB, GMA Integrated News
