Rain Matienzo appears as Salome in 'Maria Clara at Ibarra'

Rain Matienzo just appeared in "Maria Clara at Ibarra" as Salome!

The character is the love interest of Elias in the missing chapter of "Noli Me Tangere," which Dr. Jose Rizal removed from the final manuscript due to lack of funds.

Titled "Elias at Salome," new editions of the novel now contain the chapter in the appendix, so students who read Noli in high school are familiar with Salome.

On Monday's episode of "Maria Clara at Ibarra," Elias met Salome in the woods and the two exchanged sweet greetings and a hug.

Rain also shared a photo of herself as Salome on Twitter after her character was introduced in the episode.

"Salome" landed among the trending topics in Philippine Twitter as the episode aired, with fans expressing delight at her appearance in the series.

"Maria Clara at Ibarra" airs on GMA Telebabad weekdays after "24 Oras." It is also livestreamed on GMANetwork.com/KapusoStream.
