Autotelic celebrates 10-year anniversary with a show on November 26

Celebrated pop-rock quintet Autotelic will mark their 10 years as a group with a show titled Isang Dekadang Autotelic on November 26 at 123 Block in Mandala Park, Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City.

Composed of singer-guitarist Josh Villena, guitarist Neil Tin, bassist Timothy “Pabs” Vargas, synth player EJ Edralin, and drummer Gep Macadaeg, the group was formed in 2012 initially as a side project of sorts. They were part of different bands, but soon found themselves—after a rigorous workshop of their intended sound, target milestones, and ballpark aesthetic—motivated to stand out through music.

Inspired by their shared love for OPM, dance-pop, electronic music, and Japanese ephemera, the band’s songs include a mix of danceable guitar pop and future-forward indie rock. Plus, their narratives veer from typical lovelorn fare but remain relatable. Autotelic is behind the anthems “Dahilan,” “Laro,” “Languyin,” “Gising,” and “Takipsilim.”

In their decade-long career, Autotelic received accolades from Jam 88.3, Jack Daniel’s, Vandals on the Wall, and the MYX Awards. Most notably, they won Best Performance By a New Group Recording Artist for “Laro” at the 2017 Awit Awards.

Their upcoming anniversary show seeks to celebrate all of this and more. They will be joined by fellow self-made stars, December Avenue and Ang Bandang Shirley. — LA, GMA Integrated News
