Glaiza De Castro wins another acting award for ‘Liway’

Glaiza De Castro has won an international acting award for her work in “Liway.”

She was named Best Actress at the Facine Film Festival, the oldest Filipino film fest in the US.

“So I got these messages at around 2 [a.m.] here in Canada saying something about ‘Liway’ getting awards,” said the actress, who is currently in Ontario to shoot a movie.

“Di ko naintindihan agad," Glaiza admitted saying it wasn't until director Kip Oebanda told her she "won another award."

"Huwatttt,” the Kapuso actress said unable to hide her delighted surprise.

Thanking Facine Film Festival, Glaiza triumphantly said, "Mahuhay ang pelikulang Pilipino."

The winners were selected by a jury composed of film scholar, critic, and author, JB Capino; Indonesian film scholar and curator Gaston Soehadi; and film and theater actor, and academic Sunita Mukhi.

The “Running Man Philippines” star also invited her supporters to watch "Liway," which can be streamed on YouTube for free.

Based on true events of the Marcos dictatorship, the film tells the story of Dakip or Kip, a boy living in a prison camp that houses criminals and members of the New People’s Army.

Glaiza played Ma. Cecilia Flores-Oebanda, better known as Commander Liway, Kip’s mother. As life in the camp gets more difficult, Liway tries her best to shield her son from trauma and give him a normal life.

“Liway” was part of Cinemalaya 2018, where it won a special jury commendation and the audience choice award.

Glaiza won Best Actress awards at the 37th Film Academy of the Philippines Luna Awards, 3rd GEMS Awards and Platinum Stallion Media Awards, and the Trinity University of Asia's 5th Platinum Stallion Media Awards.
