Danny Javier on near-death experience in 2011: 'I have never been afraid of death'
In an interview in Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho in 2016, Danny Javier recalled his near-death experience in 2011.
The late OPM legend had been diagnosed with a slew of medical conditions: kidney failure, liver collapse, emphysema, pneumonia, hepatitis-A, congestive heart failure, and sepsis.
"Sabi nila, bad news is you only have 10 percent chance of survival," he said. "Binigyan nila ako ng gamot, naka-dextrose ako. I survived the first day. I lost 20 pounds all in all. But I was able to walk out of the hospital. I recovered."
While he was battling for his life, Danny told himself: "If this is my time to go, it's my time to go."
"I have never been afraid of death," he told Jessica Soho. "Kung hindi ka mamamatay, hindi ka nabuhay. Di ba? 'Yun talaga ang destination mo, e."
Danny also recalled that he had a "white life experience" while in the hospital.
"Hawak-hawak ko yung kamay ng anak ko. Ang feeling ko, kung saan-saan ako nagpupunta. pumunta akong langit, purgatoryo at saka impyerno," he said.
"Pagdating ko sa impyerno, ang daming tao, nakapila. Lahat, mga kaibigan ko. So at home na at home ako," he added with a laugh.
Because of the long line of people Danny asked the guard there if he could go back.
"Kasi walang gustong magpasingit e. Nu'ng umalis ako, namulat ako, hawak ko pa rin yung kamay ng anak ko," he said. "Sabi ko sa anak ko, how long was I asleep? Sabi niya, were you asleep?"
Danny Javier, a member of the iconic APO Hiking Society, passed away on Monday. He was 75 years old.
His daughter Justine Javier Long said he died from "complications due to his prolonged illnesses." —JCB, GMA News
