In loving memory: Shocking celebrity deaths of 2022

The deaths of some of our favorite veteran actors and actresses were among this year’s heartbreaks in local showbiz news. The fact that we would no longer see them in new roles on our screens have still got us mourning.

In an episode of “Dapat Alam Mo!” we looked back on these shocking celebrity deaths.

There's Cherie Gil, who passed away in August due to a rare form of endometrial cancer at 59.

Cherie and her family kept her illness private, and so her death shocked the whole industry.

Tributes poured in for the actress right away, the most memorable one from her “Bituing Walang Ningning” on-screen partner and close friend Sharon Cuneta.

The Megastar paid tribute to Cherie in numerous Instagram posts, and even shared the last gift she received from Cherie, a framed photo of them together.

In her 50-year acting career, no one can ever replace Cherie as the La Primera Contravida.

Another shocking death? Susan Roces, who passed away at 80 last May.

With a career that started in 1952, Susan Roces had more than 130 film credits to her name, making her the Queen of Philippine Movies.

Her funeral was attended by fans and close friends in the business.

In an emotional interview on “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho,” her daughter, Senator Grace Poe remembered their times together. “Yung trabaho sa pulitika, medyo demanding eh. Lagi kang mayroong pinupuntahan, may ginagawa ka. Yung oras ko sa nanay ko mas kumonti,” the senator said.

She added, “Sa nanay ko, kahit kausap ko siya madalas, mayroon pa rin akong hindi nasasabi. Hindi lang ‘Mama, I love you,’ siguro [bibigyan ko rin siya ng] mahigpit na yakap.”

Finally, the death of veteran director and comedian Philip Lazaro was also big news. He died of multiple organ failure at 52 years old last July.

The artists he worked with, like Barbie Forteza, Juancho Trivino, Tuesday Vargas, and close friend John Lapus, gave him some messages on social media.

Aside from working behind the camera, Direk Philip was also a cast member on “I Heart Davao” and “Beautiful Justice.”

In his interview “Tunay na Buhay” interview, he gave some words of encouragement.

“Ang pagmamahal sa Diyos, pagmamahal ng pamilya at totoong kaibigan ang dapat mong kapitan, dahil ‘yan lamang ang iyong maaasahan sa iyong pag-angat at sa iyong pagbagsak.”
