Barbie Forteza gets transported into the world of ‘Noli Me Tangere’ in ‘Maria Clara at Ibarra’ trailer
What happens when a Gen Z working student gets transported back to the past? Well, we’ll have to tune in to “Maria Clara at Ibarra” to find out.
Described as “ang seryeng magbibigay ng bagong pagpapahalaga sa ating nakaraan at sa ating kasalukuyan,” "Maria Clara at Ibarra" is not unlike the Japanese subgenre isekai, where characters are transported from one world to another.
In the case of "Maria Clara at Ibarra," struggling nursing student Klay (Barbie Forteza) wakes up one day in the world of Jose Rizal’s novel, “Noli Me Tangere.”
She meets Maria Clara (played by Julie Anne San Jose), who gets fascinated when she sees a bra for the first time.
Klay also does not hesitate to clap back at Crisostomo Ibarra (played by Dennis Trillo), who does not understand why women should be allowed to earn their degrees.
Aside from meeting the popular characters, Klay also witnesses the abuse Filipinos had to go through during the Spanish occupation.
“Maria Clara at Ibarra” will have its world premiere on October 3 on GMA Network. — LA, GMA News
