Buboy Villar says Marian Rivera helped his career: ‘Sobrang laki ng part mo sa buhay ko’

Now part of the industry’s well-known actors, Buboy Villar said among those whom he is very grateful for is Marian Rivera.

In an episode of “Updated with Nelson Canlas,” Buboy said it all started when they starred together in “Dyesebel.” 

“Doon 'yung parang first click ko talaga na show eh,” he said. “Kung hindi dahil sa kanya at sa direktor naming si Direk Joyce (Bernal), sa pagtiwala niya sa 'kin, hindi talaga mabubuo itong Buboy.”

(That was my first show that clicked. If it weren't for her and our director, Direk Joyce, for her trust, Buboy will not be made whole.)

“Thank you, Ate Yan, kasi sobrang laki ng tulong at part mo sa buhay ko kasi ikaw 'yung naging ate ko no’n eh. Lalo na ngayon. Actually, mag-kumare kami. From mag-ate to mag-kumare,” he added.

(Thank you, Ate Yan, because you have greatly helped me. You played a big part in my life as my big sister. Especially now. Actually, we are 'mag-kumare.' From siblings to 'mag-kumare.')

Buboy tried his luck in showbiz when he joined a singing competition years back. He started knowing the ropes in acting after director Maryo J. Delos Reyes saw his potential.

He has since been requested by Marian to co-star with her in various shows. Among the other projects they worked on together are “Amaya” and “Super Inday.”

Meanwhile, Buboy also said his humble beginnings as a “nangangalakal” served as his motivation to keep doing his best in the industry.

“Nagsimula lang ‘to sa pang-bigas eh. Kailangan kong gawin ‘to para pang-bigas. Lahat ng ginagawa ko, pangkain ‘to at para sa pamilya.”

(This all started because I needed to earn money to buy rice. I've been doing all that I do to provide food for my family.)

“‘Yon ang naging gasolina ko para mas mag-move forward pa sa kung anong kaya kong gawin para sa pamilya ko,” he added. “Sa murang edad, nakita ko kasi 'yung reality.”

(That became my gasoline so I could move forward to other things I can do to provide for my family. This is because at an early age, I already saw the reality.)
