Comedian Caloy ‘Ogag’ Alde, passes away
Veteran comedian Caloy Alde, often dubbed as the Mr. Bean of the Philippines and best known for his screen name “Ogag,” has died. He was 60 years old.
Speaking to GMA News Online, his wife Rhoda Porral-Alde said Caloy was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center on July 22 due to a “massive heart attack.”
Doctors tried to revive him, “pero wala na po talagang any electrical pulse yung heart niya," Rhoda said.
She added Caloy was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and chronic kidney disease two years ago and has since been taking maintenance medicines.
Caloy is best known for playing the lead role on the sitcom “Ogag,” which aired on TV5 in the ‘90s.
According to IMDB, he last appeared in the 2020 film “Mang Kepweng: The Mystery of the Black Scarf” as Haring Hap-Hap.
When his acting career slowed down, Caloy and his wife Rhoda Porral-Alde ran a sari-sari store and barbecue stand.
In a 2015 episode of “Wish Ko Lang,” the program granted his wish of being back in the comedy scene after a year of being outside the limelight. He was able to act in episodes of “Juan Tamad” as Professor Teroy Panindak.
Caloy’s wake, which starts tomorrow night, is not open to the public. His burial is tentatively scheduled for Sunday.
According to Mrs. Alde, Caloy was supposed to celebrate his birthday on Thursday, July 28.
