Friends, colleagues visit Susan Roces' wake in Taguig


Susan Roces’ friends and colleagues paid their respects to the late veteran actress on the first day of her wake at Heritage Memorial Park, Taguig City on Saturday.

As seen on GMA Super Radyo dzBB reporter Luisito Santos’ Twitter update, visitors quietly paid respects to the Queen of Philippine Movies and expressed their condolences to her family.

Susan passed away last May 20 due to cardiac arrest, according to her daughter Senator Grace Poe.

 

 

Shortly after hearing the news, celebrities have also taken to social media to mourn and express their sadness over the actress’ passing.

Susan Roces’ wake will be until Tuesday, May 24, 10pm. Public viewing will start on Sunday, May 22. Viewing hours are from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

 

 

Visitors are asked to observe safety protocols, wear face mask, and observe social distancing.

Some fans went to Heritage Memorial Park before dawn on Sunday to wait for public viewing hours to start.

 

 

Interment details will be announced soon, the family said.

Susan was the widow of actor Fernando Poe Jr., the King of Philippine Movies.

According to the CCP Encyclopedia of Philippine Art, Susan was born on July 28, 1941 to Dr. Jesus Sonora and Purificacion Levy.

She was nine when she appeared in her first movie Mga Bituin ng Kinabukasan in 1952.

Susan then played the title role in Boksingera in 1956 with Luis Gonzales and Dolphy as co-stars.

Known for her "refreshing beauty and sweet personality", Susan made movies through the decades from the 50s to the 80s.

She won best actress honors from the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences for Maligno in 1977 and Gumising Ka, Maruja in 1978, among other awards she received.
