Susan Roces: Celebrities pay tribute to showbiz icon

Tributes pour in for Susan Roces as the Queen of Philippine Movies passes away.

On Friday, Sen. Grace Poe announced that her mother, whose real name was Jesusa Sonora Poe, died Friday night.

“She passed away peacefully on a Friday evening, May 20, 2022, surrounded by love and warmth, with her daughter Grace, her nephews Joseph and Jeffrey and many of her family and close friends,” she said.

Roces was the widow of Fernando Poe Jr., the King of Philippine Movies.

Actress Lovi Poe, FPJ’s daughter, paid tribute to the veteran actress via Instagram.

“I write this post with a heavy heart. We’ve truly lost a gem and one of the beloved pillars in the industry. My love and prayers to Ate Grace and the whole family,” she said.

Aktor, a league of Filipino actors led by Dingdong Dantes, joined in the collective mourning of the film and TV industry over the passing of “one of our most illustrious stars.”

“Ms Roces has consistently been a paragon of excellence, professionalism, and generosity throughout a phenomenal career that spanned over six decades,” it said.

“The immortal legacy of our dearest Susan Roces shall continue to light the path for future generations of artists.”

Bea Alonzo said her Tita Susan had taught her so much during the short time that they worked together.

“Naaalala ko pa nung sinabi mong kapag masama ang loob ko, isulat ko lang sa papel lahat ng galit ko, at sa isa pang papel, isulat ko naman ang mga bagay na ipinagpapasalamat ko, at bago pa man akong matapos magsulat, mawawala na ang galit ko. Hanggang ngayon ginagawa ko pa rin po ito,” said Bea. “Thank you so much for your wisdom, humility and generosity.”

“I will keep you close to my heart and remember you fondly forever, Tita Sue,” wrote Bela Padilla, as she posted a video of them enjoying their food together. – RC, GMA News
