Ysabel Ortega, who plays Jamie Robinson, shares details of her training for ‘Voltes V: Legacy’
Ysabel Ortega revealed she underwent rigorous training and preparation for her role as Jamie Robinson in the highly anticipated live-action adaptation series "Voltes V: Legacy."
In a media interview on Friday, Ysabel said she trained nonstop for the whole year of 2020.
"Before Voltes V, I didn't have any martial arts training. My background would be gymnastics. When I got the role, I said I'd work hard for this and I needed to be prepared," the actress said in Filipino.
"The whole year of 2020, I didn't do anything else but train. I trained for kickboxing, I trained for muay thai. It was mostly preparation for stunt training."
According to Ysabel, martial arts training is different from stunt training because the latter does not require actual physical contact.
"But the foundation, the skill has to be there," Ysabel explained.
While shooting her scenes, the actress said it was discipline that guided her.
"When you train for something, for just one day, there's not much use. You have to constantly practice and learn more about it," Ysabel said.
"Playing Jamie Robinson is such a big responsibility. Doing my part is to really train hard and really practice," she added.
"It's a very physical thing. The fight scenes are very precise. It's like a dance so you really have to prepare and practice especially with the person involved in the scene so no one gets hurt."
In July, Ysabel went viral after she released her stunt training video where she took down eight opponents in just 30 seconds.
Stepping out of her soft and sweet image, Ysabel impressed fans as she showcased her skills in mixed martial arts and took one enemy to the ground Black Widow-style.
Aside from Ysabel, the other actors featured in the highly anticipated live-action adaptation series are Miguel Tanfelix, Radson Flores, Matt Lozano, and Raphael Landicho.
The adaptation was licensed by Japan's Toei Company Ltd. through the Philippine-based Telesuccess Productions. – RC, GMA News
