Dennis Trillo on lessons he learned from 'Legal Wives': Respect for culture, religion, people
Dennis Trillo shared some of the lessons he learned from acting on "Legal Wives," dubbed as the first-ever Muslim teleserye on Philippine TV.
In the series, the Kapuso Drama King played the role of Ishmael, a Maranao royal who weds three women. His leading ladies were Bianca Umali, Andrea Torres, and Alice Dixson.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Dennis reflected on his main takeaway from the show, which is now ending this week after a successful run since its premiere in July.
"Siguro 'yung pinaka importanteng lesson is 'pag respeto sa kultura, respeto sa relihiyon at lalong-lalo na respeto sa mga tao, mapa Maranao man 'yan, Islam man 'yan, Kristiyano man 'yan," Dennis said.
["I guess the most important lesson is respecting the culture of others, respecting their religion, and most especially respecting other people, whether they are Maranao, whether they believe in Islam, whether they're Christians."]
"Respeto sa tao ang pinaka importanteng natutunan ko. Maraming taong di nagagawa 'yung respeto dahil hindi nila nauunawaan 'yung ibang tao, 'yung pinagdadaanan nila," he added.
["Respecting other people is the most important lesson I learned. Many people don't give respect because they don't understand other people, what they're going through."]
Dennis also said that he went through a lot of difficult scenes to play the role of Ishmael because he wasn't a typical man.
One of the biggest challenges for him was speaking Maranao, but thankfully, there were mentors on set who would guide the actors in properly speaking the language.
"Itong character, madetalye, marami ka kailangan alamin bago mo gawin ang eksena. Marami kang kailangan pag-aralan," Dennis said.
["This character, there's a lot of details, you need to know a lot of things before you can act in a scene. You need to study a lot of things."]
