Andrea Torres to star as Pinay tango dancer in upcoming Argentinian film
Andrea Torres is set to play a Filipina tango dancer in an upcoming Argentinian film.
Tentatively titled “Pasional,” the Kapuso actress excitedly revealed in an online interview that it’s going to be a love story between her character and an Argentinian national.
“Natuwa ako sa idea kung paano sila nag-meet, kasi parang destiny na magkita sila [I liked the idea of how they met because it was like destiny],” she told GMA News Online.
According to Andrea, she did a three-day tango class to prepare for the role.
“Nag-lessons ako three days. Nagustuhan ko siya. Ang ganda nung sayaw. Very romantic and parang lumulutang. Feeling ko even after the movie, gusto ko pa rin mag-tango,” she said.
(“I had lessons for three days. I liked it. The dance is beautiful. It’s very romantic and it’s like you’re floating. I feel like even after the movie, I would still want to do tango.”)
“Para kayong as one ng partner mo. Napaka romantic niyang sayaw,” she added. “More of footwork and laging naka straight body, chin up. Something different so na-enjoy ko siya talaga.”
(“It’s like you’re one with your partner. It’s very romantic. It’s more on footwork and your body should always be straight, chin up. It’s something different so I enjoyed it.”)
She also had to practice her Spanish, as she had lines in both English and Spanish.
“May pagkakapareho yung Spanish sa Tagalog so medyo madali na for us na sabihin yung mga salita nila. Pinabasa lang sa’kin ta’s minor adjustments. Meron lang konting tinuro,” she said.
(“Spanish and Tagalog are similar so it’s quite easy for us to say their words. I was just asked to read then there were minor adjustments. They just taught me a few things.”)
From the title, it can be figured that the film will involve intimate scenes. To which, Andrea said, it was needed.
“Kailangan para mas maramdaman at mas makita yung pagmamahal nila sa isa’t-isa, kung gaano ka-sincere, ka-pure, paano naging deep yung samahan nilang dalawa so ‘di naman ako ninenerbyos.”
(“It’s needed so the viewers can feel and see their love for each other, how sincere, pure, and how deep their bond has become so I’m not nervous.”)
Besides, even on their pre-production video calls, they already made her feel comfortable. “Very welcoming na sila," she said. "Ramdam ko na talaga na parang magkaka-jive kami sa set. Walang ilangan. Palagay na yung loob ko sa kanila, so I’m sure ‘di ko magiging problem ‘yon.”
(“They’ve been very welcoming even in our Zoom calls. I could really feel that we’ll jive on set. There is no awkwardness. I feel at ease with them, so I’m sure that wouldn’t be a problem.”)
Andrea is currently in Argentina and will stay there for two weeks for shooting. Early next year, other members of the cast will be going to the Philippines for another set of taping.
