Alden Richards eyes darker roles after years of being the ‘good boy’

Many of us have fallen in love with Alden Richards as the clean-cut "good boy" who saves the day and gets the girl. Now, are you ready for "dark" Alden?

After renewing his contract with GMA Artist Center on Friday, Asia's Multimedia Star said he's looking forward to broadening his horizons as an actor and exploring "darker" roles.

Alden had yet to have a project in mind, but he already dipped a toe in going "dark" after playing Louie in his latest Kapuso drama "The World Between Us."

"Heto kasi 'yung role na hindi lang siya one dimensional," the actor said. "One dimensional, meaning, the start of the story goes to the conflict to the final arch."

According to Alden, Louie actually goes through three different stages in his life.

The character first enters the story as a youngster who grows up to be hardworking and successful.

But then, "eventually, may mga unfortunate events that will change him into a darker person that he is," Alden reveals.

"So 'yun 'yung nagustuhan ko, 'yung malinaw na malinaw 'yung transition ni Louie from the first parts of the story going to the ending," he added.

Careful not to give anything away, Alden said he was especially excited for fans to see the rest of "The World Between Us" when the show comes back from a season break this November.

"When it comes to roles naman marami pa kong 'di ginagawa and I'm looking forward and might be doing in the next couple of months, with GMA, of course, so tignan natin," he said.

"Kasi, actually, now is the time talaga to really explore and to be more [experimental] on different projects kasi nga 10 years is really a long time na," he added.

"Na-get used to 'yung mga manonood and mga fans to watch me as the good guy, always the good boy, and, ngayon, we’ll give them a different flavor, lalong-lalo na sa pagbabalik ng The World Between Us."

Alden Richards renewed his contract with GMA Artist Center on Oct. 15, 2021.
