Why did Kuya Kim transfer to GMA-7?

Kuya Kim has revealed the reason for his transfer to GMA-7 after 17 years in the industry.

In an online interview with the press last week, the newest Kapuso said a huge factor for him to take on the offer was wanting growth in his career.

“A time came in my life wherein I wanted to grow and to explore. I felt like I was already semi-retired. I felt like if I stayed on, I would retire as a weatherman,” he told GMA News Online.

Citing the Bible, Kuya Kim points to the parable of the talents that essentially says we should grow the gifts we receive from God. 

“All of a sudden, I see this opportunity. I was given to be able to make my talent, 10 talents in the Kapuso network. It would be a sin, a disservice to my Lord not to take it,” he said.

According to Kuya Kim, the first person he informed of his decision was his wife Felicia.

“My wife knows that I’m capable of much more kaya nung sinabi ko na I’m moving to GMA-7, she was very happy,” he said. “[She said], ‘So good for you, Kim, because your passion will be back.’”

The second one he reached out to was his eldest son Jose, who said going to a place where there is “upward mobility” sounds like a great choice.

“At GMA, there’s a window of opportunity to be able to grow at this late age in my life that’s 54. Very few people are given that opportunity to grow at this age,” he said.

Now officially a Kapuso, Kuya Kim said he will show the same things people already know of him, but upgraded version of himself to the viewers.

“This will be a much better, improved, more passionate Kuya Kim,” he said.

Apart from a new segment in “24 Oras,” Kuya Kim will be appearing on “Mars Pa More” everyday and will be headlining a new informative show called “Dapat Alam Mo.”
