Bayang Barrios reveals story behind famous 'Encantadia' theme song 'Tadhana'
Everyone who grew up with the four sang'gre have Encantadia's theme song "Tadhana" engraved in their minds. Just one note of the famous chanting will let almost anyone know what will come next.
In an interview on "The Howie Severino Podcast," the voice behind the theme song, Bayang Barrios, revealed the emotion and the story behind the painful war-themed song.
Bayang recalled that Allan Feliciano, the man who created the song, called her up and told her the song was a "chanting."
She said, "Nakaareglo na...Tapos nandu'n na ako sa studio, pinakinggan ko lang (It was already arranged...When I was in the studio, I just listened to it)."
"Sponteneously, tinanong ko lang siya, 'Ano ba ang feeling ng piyesa na 'to?' Sabi ni Allan, 'Ito parang ang feel mo ay ikaw si Encantada na parang 'yung forest ay naubos na, ginahasa 'yung mamamayan, parang ganu'n.' So on the spot 'yun. Pinakinggan ko 'yung areglo," she added.
[Spontaneously, I just asked him, 'What is the feeling of this piece?' Allan said, 'You feel that you are Encantada and the forests have disappeared and your people have been raped.' So that was on the spot. I listened to the arrangement.]
Admittedly, Bayang said that she couldn't repeat the song anymore the same way because it was an "on the spot" recording.
"On the spot. Kung ano 'yung feeling ko sa narinig kong areglo, 'yun 'yung lumabas," she said.
[It was on the spot. What I felt when I heard the arrangement, that's what came out.]
While Bayang was the voice of "Tadhana," her husband Mike Villegas played the guitar. — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
