‘Nagbabagang Luha’: 5 reasons why the newest GMA-7 teleserye is a must-watch

Every Kapuso's afternoon is set to heat up this August as GMA premieres its newest drama series "Nagbabagang Luha."

In a virtual press conference, Glaiza de Castro, Rayver Cruz, Mike Tan, Claire Castro, Royce Cabrera, Myrtle Sarrosa, Karenina Haniel, and Gina Alajar, as well as directors Ricky Davao and Philip Lazaro shared reasons why the newest teleserye was a must-watch.

1. It's based on the 1988 film "Nagbabagang Luha," but with a modern twist.

"Nagbabagang Luha" is based on the 1988 film with the same title directed by Ishmael Bernal.

According to the directors, they added a modern twist in the '80s film and stretched it to a whole teleserye.

"Actually medyo nilagyan ng modern touch yung original because we watched the original movie, the dialogue, the looks, the expression lahat medyo modern and medyo mas recent siya," they said.

Direk Ricky said they made it with a different "touch and flavor."

"Mas matapang, mas sexy, mas nagbabaga, and with respect to the late Ishmael Bernal, ang 'Nagbabagang Luha' na ginawa ng GMA," he said, adding that "this is a teleserye na humaba at hinimay-himay ang bawat character."

2. No big scenes, only pure talent from its actors

According to Direk Philip, the series is not beautiful but excellent.

"'Eto mahusay ‘yung soap because we didn’t dwell too much on scenic views. We concentrated on the acting of the great actors," he said.

"And then sila mismo they are a feast to watch. Walang big shots, big scenes. Hindi maganda yung soap. Mahusay yung soap," he added.

3. The stars will impress viewers during heavy scenes.

Glaiza and Rayver said they had to prepare mentally and emotionally to be one with their characters when they did heavy scenes.

"More on emotional and mental preparation 'yung ginawa ko. Nung una ko pa lang nabalitaan na may gagawin akong soap na ang title ay "Nagbabagang Luha," nako mabigat 'to," Glaiza said.

"Katulad ng sinabi ni Direk, mas hinimay namin mga characters at mga eksena, and I think yun yung pinaka-importanteng preparation ko mental and emotional," she added.

Rayver said that just by reading the script and learning it had heavy drama scenes, he already knew it was going to be a challenge for him as someone who had a bright and sunny personality.

"For me kung papano ako mabuti dun sa mabibigat and malalakas 'yung emotion na eksena, kasi nung nabasa ko pa 'yung sa script reading pa lang, sabi ko sa sarili ko na macha-challenge ako kasi masayahing tao din talaga ako. Hindi ko na-itatago na masiyahin talaga ako," he said.

4. Real life lessons can be learned from the series.

The directors and actors also shared some of the real life lessons viewers could pick up from the show.

While there may be exaggerations on the portrayals in the drama, Glaiza said what they would be showing were things that happened to real people in real life.

"Siyempre 'yung story naman natin nagre-revolve sa love, minsan may jealousy, may hate, may acceptance, lahat ng elements ng buhay natin. Pag napanood niyo medyo exaggerated lang pero nangyayari talaga sa totoong buhay," she said.

Rayver said the series would also teach the audience to always "think before you act."

"Kahit sa anong bagay sa mundong ito, kahit sino ang kasama mo, lagi kang mag-iingat and always be sensitive to other people," said Direk Philip.

"'Do not do unto others what you don't want to be done unto you.' Tandaan mo hindi lahat ng kapamilya, kapuso."

5. It is set to entertain and show both the good and the bad side of humans.

Direk Ricky said "Nagbabagang Luha" was set to "to entertain people to show the good the bad, the worst characters na mapapanuod ninyo o maiisip ninyo."

"Lahat na ng kasamaan, lahat ng kabutihan, extreme emotions mapapanuod niyo dito," he said.

"Dito I think ang tao mae-entertain because matutuwa sila, mai-inlove sila, mabubuwisit sila siguro. From time to time sa hapon, baka mag-iinit ang katawan nila. So I hope people will watch this," he added.
