Kim delos Santos opens up about struggles as a nurse in US: 'They call me names, I used to cry'
Kim delos Santos says she had "no regrets" leaving showbiz, despite experiencing work-related struggles over the years.
In an episode of "Tunay na Buhay," the 39-year-old former actress shared that she went through several jobs before finally pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse.
Kim's first job in the US was working at a restaurant, but she eventually realized that culinary wasn't for her.
She also worked as a receptionist at one point, as well as a simpler job that involved slipping ID cards into envelopes. Neither worked out.
However, Kim's biggest struggle came while she was working as a nurse and experienced discrimination.
"They would call me names regarding my weight," Kim said. "I used to cry. I stepped off the floor. I talked to my boss, crying."
Despite her humbling experiences, Kim said she did not regret leaving her life as an actress.
"I think its halfway knowing who you are. Always remember to be humble," she said.
"That [past] is like my Fantasy Island. Like, sometimes, I ask myself: Was I really a celebrity?' Then, when I look at my old stuff, I say 'Is this really me?'"
Kim moved to the US in 2004 after her splitting up with her husband Dino Guevarra.
She is now working as a nurse, and has gone back to school to become an official psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. —Margaret Claire Layug/JCB, GMA News
