Jennica Garcia tearfully admits: 'I'm not strong'

Jennica Garcia has suffered blow after blow this year, and the actress admitted that it took a toll on her mentally.

In an exclusive interview with GMA News' Aubrey Carampel, Jennica said it all started in March with the failing of her marriage with estranged husband Alwyn Uytingco.

That same month, her grandmother passed away due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The disease then spread to the rest of the family, including Jennica.

Come May, her closest friend in the non-profit rescue organization she volunteers in also died.

"My mental state was no longer okay," Jennica said in a mix of Filipino and English. "[It was like] I'm about to really lose it in the head."

She was then pushed to seek a professional for help.

"I make sure that I meet my doctor weekly, my psychologist. At first, I was a bit shy to share this," she said.

Jennica said she was inspired to speak up about her mental health struggles because she gets messages from fans telling her that they were going through the same things as her.

"They're wondering how I am so strong," she said. "And I don't get to reply. So during these moments, I want to take the chance to say that I'm not strong."

"I even question God. I am a Christian, but still...I question the Lord. Because sometimes I think, Lord...I think maybe You think too highly of me," she added. "I think You think I'm very anchored."

Jennica paused as she turned emotional.

Tearfully, she said, "I just want to say that I'm not strong because sometimes I think people think that I am. And whatever state they are in right now, it's okay."

However, she said she refuses to spread negativity online because the world gets enough sad news every day.

Jennica confirmed her split with Alwyn in May. They tied the knot in 2014.

She has since been adjusting to her new normal as a solo parent to their two children.

She will star in the upcoming Kapuso series "Las Hermanas," her first full-length project since getting married and starting a family. —JCB, GMA News
