What sets upcoming GMA romantic drama 'The World Between Us' apart from other love stories? Direk Dominic Zapata explains
Director Dominic Zapata said the upcoming GMA romantic drama "The World Between Us" is unlike other love stories and shows. To begin with, he says, the story is based on the classic book "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Brontë.
When prodded further, the esteemed Filipino director answered using metaphors.
"It’s like if you go to a restaurant and then you eat this particular dish — Kaldereta sabihin na lang natin kaldereta. You put in the same stuff in Kaldereta pero kinain mo siya dun sa isang special na restaurant sa Pampanga and you’re blown away by it," Direk Dominic told GMA News Online.
Despite it having the "same ingredients" and being the "same dish," their show happens to be different "because it came in perfect proportions and it was cooked the right way. It was the best ingredients ganon lang," he said.
Direk Dominic quickly issued a clarification: He is not saying it is the best "Wuthering Heights," nor is "The World Between Us" is the "best love story," but that it is "the one for you."
"This is the one for 2021. Ito yung tikman mo ‘to, masasarapan ka dito promise," he said.
With such a stellar and seasoned cast — Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Alden Richards, Tom Rodriguez, Dina Bonnevie, Jaclyn Jose, Sid Lucero, Kelley Day, and Alyana Asistio — the show's collective years of experience clocks in at nearly a hundred years, Direk continued.
"Kasi we combine for about 80 or even a hundred years of experience all of us combined — we don’t let that go to waste," he said.
Direk Dominic describes their working environment as "collaborative."
"Lahat kami, we’re swooning over this material and doon nag-simula na we’re so passionate about the project tapos everyone kinds of give their influence. It’s like a collaborative effort. So how are we gonna go wrong 'di ba?"he said.
For Direk Dominic, this is what makes the story of "The World Between us" different and good.
"Tama yung timpla nito in a nutshell. Tama yung timpla, tama yung pasok, tama yung bigay ng lahat, everything came perfectly together," he said.
"Of course we will try our best to keep this consistent throughout the show and maybe try our darnest best to get an extension for this show because we love it that much and the material," he said.
"The World Between Us" is Alden and Jasmine's second team up after their successful show "I Can See You: Love on The Balcony" last year.
The show is set to premiere on GMA Telebabad on July 5.
