Bearwin Meily thinks his weight loss led to the decline of showbiz offers

Bearwin Meily is a comedian known for the line "Yahoo, yahoo!" and many other hilarious jokes on TV.

Tipping the scale beyond 200 lbs, the chubby comedian decided to lose weight in 2008. In 2011, he got into running. And by 2016, Bearwin had lost so much weight — and as it turns out, so much more.

In an epiode of "Tunay na Buhay," Bearwin said his weight loss led to the decline of showbiz project offers.

"Nawala 'yung pag-aartisa kasi payat na daw po ako, hindi na daw po ako nakakatawa," Bearwin said.

"Gusto nila ng mataba, nawala 'yon," Bearwin said, adding that it led him to doing sports organizing.

The comedian said for over a year he was organizing basketball leagues, marathons, and fun runs.

At one point he also got into motivational speaking at a church and ran as a councilor in Taytay, Rizal.

He and his family were also able to build their dream house.

Unfortunately, he not only lost his bid for councilor, Bearwin and his family didn't have a backup plan.

Without any financial safety net and business ideas, they sold their dream home in 2019, "kahit ayaw namin ibenta."

"It was painful to sell the house but we had to let go and let God," he said in Filipino.

"So nawalan kami ng bahay pero kaya niya pala inallow 'yun na God para meron kaming pangkain," he said.

Bearwin said he thinks that if they hadn't sold the house they would go hungry.

They also used their money savings in starting their own business.

Bearwin is now the owner of a food business called "Corny Doggy" selling corn dogs with jokes written on sticky notes written on the packaging.

Bearwin starred in several shows including "Hari Ng Sablay," "Lagot Ka, Isusumbong Kita," and "Gagamboy" among others. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/LA, GMA News
