Ruby Rodriguez moves to U.S. to support son's medical treatment for 'rare autoimmune disease'

Ruby Rodriguez has moved to the U.S. to support her son's medical treatment for a "rare autoimmune disease."

In Lhar Santiago's Chika Minute Exclusive, Ruby shared that she and her family have decided to live in the US for the time being while her son, AJ, is being treated.

"Alam naman ng lahat na my son, AJ, not only has, he's SPED, but he has medical problems also. He has a rare autoimmune [disease]," the actress and TV host said. "'Yung rare autoimmune [disease] niya kdneys niya 'yung nadali."

[Everyone knows that my son, AJ, is not only SPED, but he has medical problems also.  He has a rare autoimmune (disease). His rare autoimmune [disease] is affecting his kidneys.]

She added, "So diyan sa Philippines, na biopsy na siya. He's being treated para hindi siya mag-transplant. 'Yun 'yung in-avoid so dinala ko siya dito for medical purposes. All his medications are being done here. Kailangan kami dito para ma-treat yung 'anak ko."

[He underwent a biopsy already in the Philippines. He's being treated so he doesn't undergo a transplant. That's what we're trying to avoid so we brought him here for medical purposes. All his medications are being done here. He needs us here so he can be treated.]

According to Ruby, she and her family have been planning their move for years. She was already supposed to fly out to the U.S. in April 2020, when the lockdown was implemented.

Now that she's in the US, Ruby said that she's taking an indefinite break from show business and trying to be productive there with her new work at the Philippine Consulate in Los Angeles, California.

"I'm really enjoying what I'm doing. Malapit sa showbiz. It's still serving the Filipino people parin," Ruby said.

Her co-workers, said the actress, are "very nice" and have been helping her out a lot.

"Hindi naman ako nag-quit sa showbiz...After magawa 'yun [medical treatment] then we'll see what will happen," she added.

[I didn't quit showbiz...After my son undergoes his medical treatment, then we'll see what will happen.]

According to Ruby, she and her daughter, Toni, are already staying in the US, while her husband Mark Aquino and AJ will follow this August.

Last week, the actress shared that she's started working in Los Angeles, California.
