Dave Bautista hopes 'Army of the Dead' gives his Filipino fans 'a moment of relief, escape'


Dave Bautista is starring in the new zombie film "Army of the Dead," which he hopes would give you even just a moment of relief after everything you've been through in the past year.

GMA News Online asked the pro wrestler and rising Hollywood star Dave Bautista to give a personal message to his Filipino fans during a virtual press junket on May 6.

"I hope this really just gives them a moment of relief," Bautista said.

"When I watch television and when I watch films, especially when I was younger, they were real moments of inspiration and escapism from things that I was surrounded by that weren't really great," he added.

"And so I hope that they will just watch this film and really just kind of lose track of everything that might be negative in their life and in the world, and just be entertained for a while and, just for an hour or two, just kinda be taken away from that."

"Army of the Dead" is a horror-action film that takes place a takes place after a zombie apocalypse leaves Las Vegas in ruins and sealed off from the world.

Created by by "Justice League" and "Sucker Punch" director Zach Snyder, it follows a team led by a former zombie war hero (Dave Bautista) as they try to retrieve $200 million hidden in the strip before the city is nuked in 32 hours.

The film also stars Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Huma Qureshi, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro, Hiroyuki Sanada, Garret Dillahunt, Matthias Schweighöfer, Raúl Castillo, Nora Arnezeder, and Samantha Win.

Dave Bautista is a former pro-wrestler who made a name for himself as an actor after starring in huge blockbuster hits like Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Avengers," and the 2015 James Bond film "Spectre."

Apart from playing the lead in "Army of the Dead," Bautista also stars in the highly-anticipated film adaptation of the legendary sci-fi novel "Dune."
