Ronnie Liang warns public after scammers empty his GCash: ‘Nagtira pa ng P8.97’

Ronnie Liang took to social media to warn the public about how scammers have been able to take thousands of pesos out of his e-wallet.

In his Facebook post last March 25, the singer, actor and pilot posted screenshots of a text conversation he had with someone pretending to be his GCash agent.

In the end, Ronnie said the scammer was able to take thousands of pesos out of his GCash account.

“Nagtira pa ng 8.97 pesos (They left 8.97 pesos),” Ronnie said.

“Sharing this to raise awareness of how these online scams are so rampant and how vulnerable the system is. Please share this post to spread information and to serve as warning to all the gcash users,” he added.

The actor tagged official Globe Telecom and GCash accounts on his post, which has garnered over 900 shares and more than 2,000 reactions as of writing.

According to Chito Maniago, VP for Corporate Affairs of GCash, Globe has since reached out to Ronnie to investigate the matter further.

In a statement, Globe said they “continue to work with relevant stakeholders to investigate and apprehend criminals taking advantage of our customers.”

GCash users are cautioned to avoid sharing any type of information over social media, especially their GCash MPIN (Mobile PIN) and OTP (One-time Passwords).

Concerned individuals may report similar activities through GCash’s channel at help.gcash.com or their hotline 2882.

GCash also reminded its users that the following are the only official social media accounts of GCash:

Apart from being an actor, singer, and a pilot, Ronnie Liang is also a military reservist who just became a 2nd lieutenant in the Philippine Army last February. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
