Geneva Cruz posts throwback photos of Smokey Mountain
Geneva Cruz on Instagram Sunday posted throwback photos of the Smokey Mountain, a singing group assembled by Ryan Cayabyab in the late '80s that became pretty huge, scoring hits one after another, winning awards all across the globe.
Comprised of Tony Lambino, Jeffrey Hidalgo, James Coronel and herself, Smokey Mountain released its first self-titled album in 1989.
"The group's first hit, Kailan, was number one on national airwaves for eight straight weeks and the album hit gold, platinum, and double-platinum status within months of its release, and won 11 awards at 'Awit Awards' in 1990," Geneva hared.
In her recollection, Geneva shared how Smokey Mountain became the only Filipino artist to "perform at the United Nation’s (UNICEF) World Summit for Children in New York City," among other achievements.
For their first major concert, Christmas Day 1990, The Smokey Mountain filled the Araneta Coliseum.
The original members of Smokey Mountain would soon depart, choosing school and for Geneva, a solo career, so that The Maestro reformed the group for a second batch, that would record the popular "Da Coconut Nut" and "Paraiso."
