‘Fan Girl’ wins big at MMFF 2020
Antoinette Jadaone’s “Fan Girl” won big at the 46th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) awarding ceremony on Sunday, taking home some of the biggest awards of the night.
“Fan Girl” emerged as this year’s best picture, followed by Dolly Dulu’s “The Boy Foretold By The Stars” and Mac Alejandre’s “Tagpuan.”
The film’s lead actors, Paulo Avelino and 24-year-old breakout star Charlie Dizon, also bagged the coveted titles of best actor and best actress in a leading role, while Jadaone was named best director.
“Fan Girl” also bagged awards for best screenplay (Jadaone), best editing (Benjamin Tolentino), and best cinematography (Neil Daza).
The film revolves around a teenage girl’s obsession with her celebrity idol.
Meanwhile, Michael De Mesa was named best supporting actor for his role in Joel Lamangan’s “Isa Pang Bahaghari” and “Tagpuan” star Shaina Magdayao won best supporting actress.

Best Student Short Film - “Paano Maging Babae”
Best Child Performer - Seiyo Masunaga for “The Missing”
Best Musical Score - Emerzon Texon for “Magikland"
Best Theme Song - "Ulan" by Jhay Cura and Pau Protacio for "The Boy Foretold By The Stars"
Best Visual Effects - Richard Francia and Ryan Grimarez for "Magikland"
Best Production Design - Ericson Navarro for “Magikland"
Gender Sensitivity Award - "The Boy Foretold by the Stars"
Special Jury Prize - late director Peque Gallaga
Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award - "Suarez: The Healing Priest"
Manay Ichu Vera-Perez Memorial Award - Gloria Romero
Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award - "Magikland"
The annual MMFF went virtual this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
