'Descendants of the Sun: The Philippine Adaptation' gifts viewers with heartwarming finale on Christmas Day

As its gift to loyal Kapuso viewers this Christmas, GMA Network’s internationally-acclaimed and award-winning primetime series “Descendants of the Sun: The Philippine Adaptation” promises more exciting scenes leading to its heart-warming finale on Christmas Day.

The series’ lead stars – Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes and Ultimate Star Jennylyn Mercado, together with Rocco Nacino and Jasmine Curtis-Smith – consider DOTS Ph as one of their most memorable projects to date.

Dingdong, who was promoted as a Philippine Navy reservist Lieutenant Commander earlier this year, shared how proud he is to be a part of DOTS Ph.

“Playing the role of Big Boss is something that I’ll be proud of for years and years,” Dingdong shared. “It is an honor to be part of a project this big and internationally-recognized. But more than the entire experience and the trainings that the character went through, it’s the family we built on set that I will really miss.”

Likewise, Jennylyn is grateful to have played the character of Dr. Maxine, “Malaki ang pasasalamat ko sa Network at sa buong production team ng DOTS Ph for giving me a chance to portray Beauty. Very memorable sa akin ang DOTS Ph dahil napakaganda ng kuwento at dahil na rin sa overwhelming na suportang ipinakita sa amin ng viewers throughout its entire run.”

Rocco, on the other hand, attributed becoming a navy reservist to DOTS Ph, “It’s bittersweet to say goodbye to my character and to the series, dahil minahal ko talaga ang pagganap bilang si Wolf. DOTS Ph opened my eyes to new opportunities, at dahil din dito ay naging navy reservist ako. But I’m excited for everyone to watch our last few episodes because there are more surprises in store.”

“It was truly a blessing to have been part of something so big and so relevant to what we’re experiencing right now,” Jasmine mused. “To portray a character in a series that represented our frontliners is something I’m proud of. I’ll truly miss everyone here.”

Meanwhile, the hard-working doctors and nurses are played by Renz Fernandez, Chariz Solomon, Andre Paras, Nicole Donesa, Reese Tuazon, Jenzel Angeles, and Bobby Andrews. The brave military team is composed of Paul Salas, Jon Lucas, Lucho Ayala, and Prince Clemente. Completing the cast are Neil Ryan Sese, Pancho Magno, Antonio Aquitania, Ricardo Cepeda, Ian Ignacio, Rich Asuncion, Carlo Gonzalez, Hailey Mendes, Marina Benipayo, and Roi Vinzon.

The series is under the helm of esteemed director Dominic Zapata.

Last August, “Descendants of the Sun: The Philippine Adaptation” was recognized as the Most Popular Foreign Drama of the Year in the 15th Seoul International Drama Awards, making it the very first Philippine TV program to receive this accolade. Dingdong also took home the prestigious Asian Star Prize from the same global festival.

On its finale week, Capt. Lucas (Dingdong) finally captures the wanted rebel Rodel (Neil Ryan Sese), who is also Maxine’s long lost brother. While it is his sworn duty to turn Rodel in, he is conflicted as he knows how much Maxine loves her brother. Will he stay true to his mission, or will his heart lead him somewhere else?

Don’t miss the exciting finale of “Descendants of the Sun: The Philippine Adaptation” this Christmas, December 25, 9:15 p.m. on GMA Telebabad.
