Janine Gutierrez, Elijah Canlas named Best Actress, Best Actor at Gawad Urian Awards

Janine Gutierrez and Elijah Canlas bagged the top acting honors at the 43rd Gawad Urian Awards on Tuesday.

Janine won Best Actress for her performance in "Babae at Baril," besting 10 other nominees including Nadine Lustre ("Ulan"), Kathryn Bernardo ("Hello Love Goodbye"), and Bela Padilla ("Mañanita").

Elijah claimed the Best Actor trophy for his performance in "Kalel, 15," which also brought him the same award in the 17th Asian Film Festival in Rome.

The 20-year-old actor beat Alden Richards ("Hello Love Goodbye"), Joel Lamangan ("Ang Hupa"), Raymond Bagatsing ("Quezon's Game"), and six other nominees.

Meanwhile, Kristoffer King ("Verdict") and Yayo Aguila ("Metamorphosis") took home the Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress awards.

Rae Red won the Best Direction award for "Babae at Baril," which opened the New York Asian Film Festival in August. —MGP, GMA News
