Julie Anne San Jose sings official cover of 'Over the Moon' theme song
"Over the Moon" just started streaming on Netflix last weekend and as the theme song, "Rocket to the Moon," continues to play in our minds, another piece of big news drops: Julie Anne San Jose is doing the official local cover of it!
Netflix Philippines made the announcement on Thursday as it debuted the "Rocket to the Moon" song cover video featuring the Kapuso singer.
Speaking with GMA News Online, Julie Anne said the project actually just came about last month. "Recently lang, mga September," she said.
"I have a friend who messaged me randomly, kinuha yung contact details ko. I gave my manager's contact details and then after a few weeks, tinawagan ako ng management and told me Netflix reached out and invited me to be part of this project. Nagulat ako!" she said excitedly.
According to the Asia's Pop Diva, she's long been a fan of the video streaming site, where she's always watching and discovering films and series. "I'm so honoured they chose me to do a cover song of "'Rocket to the Moon'," Julie said.
"Ang ganda talaga ng song. It's very catchy," Julie added. "I find it really interesting and very dreamy and inspiring."
"Rocket to the Moon" is the theme song of the Glen Keane-directed animated movie "Over the Moon," a fantastical story about family, love, and loss.
It was originally sung by Filipino-Chinese actress Cathy Ang, who also voiced the lead character Fei-Fei.
"I admire how the song portrayed the character build-up of Fei Fei. The first part of the lyrics was full of self-doubt, then as the song goes on, you can now feel the determination and confidence of her character,” Julie said in the statement. “Doing the song cover of ‘Rocket to the Moon’ brought me back to the days where I was just a kid who had big dreams.”
"Sana nabigyan ko ng justice yung song. Sana magustuhan ng mga tao," Julie Anne added.
Julie's song cover debuted on Thursday with a snazzy video to boot, too. It featured the Kapuso singer interacting with some of the animated characters from the movie.
