Liza Soberano files complaint against netizen over rape remark

Actress Liza Soberano filed a criminal case against a netizen who made a rape remark about her on social media.

Her legal counsel Atty. Jun Lim of Lim & Yutatco-Sze Law Firm confirmed the news to GMA News Online, saying the actress filed the complaint earlier on Thursday morning, September 24, at the Office of the City Prosecutor of Quezon City.

"We filed an e-libel case, and one for unjust vexation and grave threats. Those are the cases that we filed," the attorney told GMA News Online on the phone.

According to Lim, Liza felt sad with the turn of events, especially since rape remarks are not something to take lightly.

"We need to understand that rape jokes, rape remarks, these are not just personal offenses eh to Liza. This is a public concern. That's why Liza feels very strongly about this case and she would want those responsible perpetrators to understand the consequences of their actions," Lim shared.

He added, "Presently one thing is clear: Liza will prosecute this case to its end. That's the present mandate of our client with us."

In a vlog post, the actress' manager Ogie Diaz narrated that the rape remark was made by a Converge employee as a comment on a colleague's post.

Addressing the Converge employee, Diaz said, "nag-comment ka sa isang post ng ka-trabaho [mo] na ang tinutukoy ng ka-trabaho [mo] ay si Liza Soberano."

Liza earlier complained on social media about her Converge account and its slow internet connection. — LA, GMA News
